Whole Foods Fails in Second Chance at Health Inspection

This can’t be good for business. Whole Foods may want to think twice about inviting inspectors back. It’s like Gary Hart daring reporters to follow him around. Not smart.

Whole Foods Fails Re-inspection, Remains Closed Until Further Notice
Rodent Infestation Not Eliminated

The Whole Foods store located at 1000 W. North Avenue failed re-inspection today when Chicago Department of Public Health (CDPH) inspectors discovered evidence of an ongoing rodent infestation.

CDPH inspectors found numerous mouse feces, as well as a dead mouse in a conventional snap trap, under a display cooler. Mouse droppings also were found behind and around food service equipment (a steamer unit).

Whole Foods will remain closed until its management has corrected the violation and passed re-inspection.

Whole Foods management had requested the inspection this morning when they signed a request for re-inspection and presented it to CDPH Food Protection Program officials.

Chicagoans who believe that a grocery store or other food establishment is operating in an unsafe manner are encouraged to dial 311 and report it.

  1. It is pathetic to see the neon green sign saying license suspended on the doors of the Whole Foods Market in Lincoln Park after they failed the Friday re-inspection! Employees are standing there with handouts to give to customers. What can they possibly be saying? “We’re sorry we couldn’t keep the store clean enough to prevent a rodent infestation where we sell food for your consumption, but here take this flyer!”
