Today the City of Chicago updated their Food Inspection data. I have a custom list of this data showing only inspections that were triggered by a case of suspected food poisoning. At the top of this list is The Peninsula, at 108 E. Superior. It passed a “Suspected Food Poisoning” inspection on last Friday, but not w/o some issues.

Here’s the complete text of the violations from the Peninsula:
16. FOOD PROTECTED DURING STORAGE, PREPARATION, DISPLAY, SERVICE AND TRANSPORTATION Comments:FOOD (ICE) NOT PROTECTED FROM CONTAMINATION DURING STORAGE INSIDE OF THE ICE MACHINE. OBSERVED DISCOLORATION AND A SLIMY SUBSTANCE ON INTERIOR SURFACES OF THE ICE MACHINE. UNIT TAGGED HELD FOR INSPECTION. MUST REMOVE ICE, TURN OFF MACHINE AND HAVE MACHINE CLEANED AND SANITIZED. DO NOT USE MACHINE UNTIL THE HELD FOR INSPECTION TAG HAS BEEN REMOVED. SERIOUS VIOLATION 7-38-005A. 32. FOOD AND NON-FOOD CONTACT SURFACES PROPERLY DESIGNED, CONSTRUCTED AND MAINTAINED Comments:REPLACE THE TORN DOOR GASKET INSIDE OF THE PREP COOLER DOOR ACROSS FROM THE OVENS.
