Calling All Artists Who Work Outside: I want to interview you for a book about what the Stay At Home order is like for an artist whose canvas is outside the home.

Chicago is well-known as a place where artists work outside. Slaps, posters, wheatpaste, wood installations. Artists on State Street making and selling, creators who offer their work face-to-face on Milwaukee Avenue. It’s a vibrant scene with decades of history, and it’s connected to hubs of artists all over the world.

The ongoing coronavirus pandemic, and the Stay At Home orders here in Illinois and across the world, have basically disallowed these activities. We stay inside in the interest of public health.

I’m interested in talking you about how your practice has changed, or how you’ve changed the way you think about your practice, in light of our lives now.

In May 2019 I published a book called “Arte Agora: art made, sold, or placed in the public way“. It describes the main types of artists I’ve seen here in Chicago and defines the entire practice as “Arte Agora”, or “art in the marketplace”..

I’m working with Galerie F to turn these interviews into a book about art in pandemic. This will also include a show of some sort– more to come.

If you have ever made, sold, or placed art outside in Chicago, I want to talk to you.
We’ll cover:

  • Your art– what you make, how you display it, and why you like to work outside
  • How the pandemic has affected your practice (or not)
  • What you think a post-coronavirus world of art outside will look like

Hit me up on TwitterIG, text, or email, and we can set up a time to talk.
