More Misunderstanding YouTube

Here’s a rant about Mark Cuban’s anti-YouTubism that misses the point.

There’s one thing wrong here: no micropayments.
The problem  with YouTube is not that they distribute copyrighted content. It’s that they think they are the only ones who should get paid for distributing copyrighted content.

God bless mustang67 for uploading the Beatles clip. I like it. I want more. And I "pay" YouTube for the privilege of watching it when I see the (and maybe click on) the ad above the video.
YouTube should pay The Beatles/ Michael Jackson/ Sony/ whatever psycho who owns the rights to the material.

And if mustang67 did something original to the clip– added their own art or framing to it– that user should be paid, too. Every lip syncher on YouTube ought to be paid tiny little sums everytime revenue is generated from their stuff.
