New York City Marathon Weekend Street Closures, November 5 – 8, 2010

This Sunday is the ING New York City Marathon, which means getting around in the morning might be challenging.

But every weekend, there's all sorts of stuff that goes on in the city that affects traffic. Here's some info from NYCDOT:

One of four lanes of the Williamsburg Bridge eastbound to Brooklyn will be partially closed Saturday from 6 am to 2 pm to facilitate NYCDOT bridge work.
 
The two entrance ramps to the eastbound/outbound Brooklyn Bridge from Park Row and Centre Street in Manhattan are closed Saturday from 1 am to 6 am. All traffic heading to Brooklyn will be detoured to Pearl Street to access the on-ramp to the Brooklyn Bridge. 59th Street between 2nd and 3rd Avenues in Manhattan will be closed from 7 am Saturday to 5 pm Sunday to facilitate utility and trunk water main work by the Department of Design and Construction. Motorists should use 2nd Avenue or 58th Street eastbound to access the lower level of the Queensboro Bridge.
 
Nassau Street between Ann Street and Fulton Street and Ann Street between Park Row and William Street in Manhattan will be closed Saturday and/or Sunday from 8 am to 6 pm to facilitate roadway work by the Department of Design and Construction.
 
1st Avenue from 50th Street to 42nd Street, 42nd Street from 1st Avenue to 6th Avenue, and 6th Avenue from 42nd Street to 59th Street in Manhattan will be closed on Saturday from 8 am to 11 am for the International Friendship Run:
 
The following streets will be closed on Sunday:
– Madison Avenue between 42nd and 57th Streets in Manhattan will be closed from 11 am to 6 pm for the St. Patrick’s Cathedral Young Adults Madison Avenue Holiday Expo.
– 80th Street between Metropolitan Avenue and Juniper Valley and Metropolitan Avenue between 80th and 69th Streets in Queens will be closed from 11 am to 4 pm for the Middle Village Veterans Day Parade.
 
The following streets will be closed on Sunday for the NYC Marathon.
Bridge Closures:
– The upper level of the Verrazano Bridge will be closed in both directions from midnight to 3 pm. The lower level in both directions will be closed from 7 am to 3 pm.
– The Pulaski Bridge will be closed from 8 am to 2:50 pm.
– The lower level of the Queensboro Bridge will be closed in both directions from 7 am to between 3 pm and 3:30 pm. The upper level will be open in both directions for cars and buses. No trucks will be allowed on the bridge. The exit ramp to 60th Street will be closed.
– The Willis Avenue Bridge will be closed from 8:45 am to 7 pm.
– The Madison Avenue Bridge will be closed from 8:30 am to 4:45 pm.
 
Street Closures in Manhattan
– First Avenue will be closed from 8:45 am to 4:20 pm.
– Fifth Avenue will be closed from 9 am to 5:20 pm.
– Central Park South will be closed from 9 am to 5:20 pm.
– Central Park West between 67th Street and 90th Street will be closed from 6 am to 7 pm.
– 72nd Street between Columbus Avenue and Central Park West will be closed from 6 am to 7 pm.
– The Central Park Transverse Roads at 65th Street, 79th Street, 86th Street and 96th Street will be closed from 9 am to 7 pm. The 65th Street Transverse Road will be open to buses only, but no buses will be allowed to cross 5th Avenue during the race. The Central Park Drives (East, West and Central) will be closed.
– The FDR Drive northbound exit ramp to the Willis Avenue Bridge will be closed from 8:45 am to 7 pm. There will be intermittent closures on the FDR Drive at exits between 63rd Street and 125th Street.
 
In Brooklyn, Fourth Avenue will be closed from 7:15 am to 1:20 pm. Expect delays at Belt Parkway exits. 
 
In the Bronx, the Major Deegan Expressway’s exit to the Willis Avenue Bridge will be closed from 8:45 am to 7 pm.
 
On Staten Island, the Staten Island Expressway Bay Street exit will be closed from 5 am to noon with all traffic diverted to Clove Road. School Road between Tompkins and Bay Street and Bay Street between Fingerboard Road and School Road (Fort Wadsworth) will be closed from 5 am to noon.
 
The times listed for closures for street fairs are for the actual times of the street fairs themselves. The streets may be closed longer to allow for set-up and breakdown. Street fair organizers are generally permitted to begin set-up at 8am and breakdown must be completed by 7pm.

Queens
111th Street between Roosevelt Avenue and 41st Avenue: This street will be closed Saturday and/or Sunday from 5am to 9pm to facilitate NYCT crane operation.
Archer Avenue between Sutphin Boulevard and 143rd Street: This street will be closed 10pm Friday to 4am Monday to facilitate MTA operation.
Archer Avenue between 143rd Street and Van Wyck Expressway Service Road: This street will be closed 10pm Friday to 4am Monday to facilitate MTA operation.
