Shawn-Laree and I met in October 2008, just before the election of Barack Obama. One of our first dates was at Grant Park, on Election Night. By the time his second election night happened, we were married more than a year, and we were there, too.
So today was a bittersweet trifecta for us— returning to McCormick Place for his farewell speech. Hot tears and fear. We must fight, and will.
