Possible Open-Air Cafes in Philadelphia

It's February, and the Committee on Streets and Services of the Council of the City of Philadelphia is turning its attention to sitting outside, sipping coffee and eating light Thai meals. They will hold a Public Hearing Wednesday, February 25, 2009, at 10:00 AM, in Room 400, City Hall, to hear testimony on the following items:

090001  An Ordinance authorizing Hossein Elbanna to construct, own and maintain, an open-air sidewalk cafe at 3901 Walnut Street, under certain terms and conditions.

090002  An Ordinance authorizing Hardev Singh to construct, own and maintain, an open-air sidewalk cafe and planters at 4004 Chestnut Street, under certain terms and conditions.

090008  An Ordinance authorizing Tony Elebah to construct, own and maintain, an open-air sidewalk cafe at 2457-2459 North 54th Street, under certain terms and conditions.

As an aside, they're also taking a hard look at the handbill industry:

080878  An Ordinance amending Chapter 10-700 of The Philadelphia Code,
entitled "Refuse and Littering," by amending the provisions of Section
10-723.2 to prohibit the door-to-door distribution of handbills unless
they are handed directly to an occupant; all under certain terms and
conditions.
